A Film that Lingers…
I just finished watching My Week with Marilyn…
I did not expect it to be what it was.
When the film began it was all moving so fast and then it just kept building until suddenly Marilyn Monroe became this three dimensional PERSON.
You know, I never really been into Marilyn Monroe. I mean, I used to watch some of her films on Saturday afternoons years ago when I was a kid. That’s when all those movies from the 50’s and the 60’s use to play for us in the 70’s on Saturday afternoons. I didn’t know she was like “Marilyn Monroe” back then, on the contrary, I just found her to be funny and entertaining along with Jerry Lewis (watched his films EVERY time the came on). Oh and Sandra Dee, the Tammy films????
So, over the years of course with all we know about her there’s this one key piece of information that brought illumination to me regarding her. She grew up in foster homes, orphanages, ducking sexual assaults. My uncle and aunt owns group homes and I used to work in one of them for a number of years. My heart has never broke so many times in so little time in my life. I’ve seen of lot stuff that happens to children that makes me question our existence as human beings. Like, Why? If we have the ability to… Forget it…
Anyway…
But just to know that she had that background… Makes this movie and the rumors about who she was make so much sense to me. And it’s tragic. And sad. And her being the sexual icon this film portrays her to be is just inevitable…
I don’t know…
So this Colin Clark guy’s account is so masterfully portrayed in this film. And normally, you know, you never see any truths in somebody’s biographies like that. Not this time. Dang… It’s tragic and real…
So what they’re saying is, she really knew how to get a rise out of a man but she had to play Marilyn Monroe even in life to keep it–and who can do that?
BUT, it was her power. And a person with her background would use that power as a crutch to walk her through life. 🙁
Who she really was, was the same person who never properly dealt with the demons. The undone person, who stepped into the Marilyn Monroe wardrobe and got locked inside.
Sighh…
I don’t think I should’ve watched this movie… I’m too sensitive…
Going to bed…
Night.
